How Are We Different?

Innovative Plan Designs

CoOportunity Health is working to develop an innovative portfolio of health insurance plans to serve the needs of individuals, families, small businesses and other employers in Iowa and Nebraska. Our product portfolio will be built for consumers by consumers. As a CO-OP, our owners are our members—we exist to develop solutions that meet the needs of our member-owners who will provide active guidance and governance.

We Exist for Individuals, Small Businesses and Other Employers

By January 1, 2014, individuals looking for new health insurance options will have the opportunity to buy coverage from CoOportunity Health for yourself or you and your family. If you’re a small business owner (with fewer than 100 full-time employees), CoOportunity Health will offer plans designed specifically for you and your employees—the economic engine of the Iowa and Nebraska business communities. We also will custom-design health plans for companies of all sizes.

Three Reasons Why Our Approach Is Different Than Traditional Insurance

•   Member Powered

•   Shared Success

•   Collaborative Model

Product Availability

We are working to build and finalize our market channels, but anticipate that our CO-OP portfolio of solutions will be available through:

Insurance Exchanges for Individuals & Small Businesses

Any purchaser may buy coverage through online shopping marts called Exchanges. Work is underway at the state level to prepare to operate Exchanges. However, if they aren’t developed at the state level, an Exchange will be available from the federal government. Any individual or family receiving government subsidies or tax credits to help them purchase health insurance must buy through the Exchange. CoOportunity Health is required to be offered on the Exchanges.

  • Iowa Affordable Insurance Exchange (when available; target is January 1, 2014)
  • Nebraska Affordable Insurance Exchange (when available; target is January 1, 2014)
  • Federal Affordable Insurance Exchange (will be available January 1, 2014)
  • Small Business Health Option Program “SHOP” (when available; target is January 1, 2014)

Direct Purchase through Agents & Brokers

We will also offer an array of products through select brokers and agents in Iowa and Nebraska that share our commitment to consumer-owned solutions. These solutions will also be available for all Iowans and Nebraskans for coverage beginning January 1, 2014. We are in the process of establishing these strategic partnerships.
